Printing

To print a Tex file, type 'dvips -Pprintername filename' where filename is the name of your dvi output file as produced by tex.

To print a regular text file, type 'enscript filename' where filename is the name of your file. 'enscript -Pprintername filename' for a specific printer; substitute the name of the printer.

To print a PostScript file, type 'lpr -Pprintername filename' where filename is the name of your file. Many mathematical packages with graphic capability can generate PostScript output, such as Matlab, Mathematica, CLAM and NCARG. See the individual handouts for how to do this.

oSteady green light
the LaserWriter is warmed up and ready to print.
oSingle flashing yellow light
      the LaserWriter is busy printing.
oSteady yellow light, no green light
the paper cassette is empty or removed.
ooSteady yellow light, steady green light
the LaserWriter is set for manual feed
oSteady red light

When paper runs out, please add more; ask other users if you do not know how. Do not over-fill the paper tray. Please don't try to clear paper jams; send mail to bugs@math.ucla.edu and it will be attended to promptly.
